Is it possible that that could be Lady Justice? I've tried finding older images of her, unfortunately her image goes back centuries! Hope that helped some?

Badge by: Bocaj
Hello, like someone else said that it is a police badge, well that is most likely what it is. this picture has a similar design as yours. but yours seems to be older.

I believe it is a badge of some sort possibly for the Justice department. Like the police of the early 1800's

Interesting Piece! by: Frank
Gary, that is an interesting looking find. I have no idea what it is.
Is there a clasp on the back, or on the sides?
Maybe someone viewing this page can identify it.
Thanks for posting,
Frank

About Gary's find from Detroit: by: Anonymous
I'm new at metal detecting for coins and treasures, but a real fan of Early American History and hunting of all kinds. Gary, I currently have no idea what you found there but I'd like to ask you: Is it bronze as appears? Is the coin shaped face separate from what appears to be the back or could they be separate pieces of the same item? and finally, a suggestion or request. Can you take a closer photo or submit a larger photo image? Perhaps readers would have a closer look at what is depicted and/or inscribed which are necessary tools. And I would add more lighting if possible so we can see the entire item without the right side being too dark and impossible to examine. I hope this helps you to learn the identity of your find! I look forward to any updates you offer and very best regards. Dan M. Massachusetts
