Many people in this hobby often ask these questions.

On the forums, people argue about whose detector is better.

“Mine goes deeper.”

“My detector is better for discriminating against iron.”

“My detector is more sensitive.”

Another question often asked is. "Who should I buy my detector and metal detecting supplies from?"

Here is my take on what detector is the best, and this is based on more than twenty-five years of metal detecting and treasure hunting all over the US, and in many different kinds of situations.

All of the major detectors are capable of locating treasure.

Believe me, I have used them all.

The difference in why one detectorist finds more stuff than another is not because one has a better detector than the other; the reason the finds are better and come more often is that the user knows his detector, plain and simple.

I have seen people with expensive detectors who do not know how to properly use their detector find very little and then give up the hobby.

I have also seen people who have used a less expensive detector, or one that the experts have rated as low, find all kinds of goodies. It is because that individual who found more knew how to get the most from their detector.

As for who you should buy from? I tell people to buy their metal detecting supplies from someone they can trust.

With my face plastered all over my metal detecting DVD's, I would like to think that after people watch my series, they would get a sense of who I am, and would trust me to purchase from.

But of course, that choice can only be made by you. There are many reputable Tesoro dealers. You need to feel comfortable with whom you are purchasing from.
