Locate Cash and Treasures in Unlikely Places
Cash and treasures come to those individuals who know where to look for them. Here are four areas to look.
Not Your Average Bank - Book Banks
A few years ago, I purchased a few hundred old books at an auction. I did go through many of them at the pre-sale viewing. However, the next day as I was flipping through the pages of an old bible, I discovered to my excitement, ten, old, war bonds that were worth $1700 tucked between the pages. The bonds were still negotiable.
It was common for people to hide their paper currency between the pages of a book. When your browsing estate sales, or flea markets, make sure you check between the pages of all the old books.
Check out those old books at estate, and home sales, you may get lucky.
Candelabras Can Bring You Cash and Treasures
If you own silver candelabra, the silver content alone has appreciated. However, that item may also hold another kind of treasure.
Candelabras were often used as a stuffing place to hide money. A pawnshop owner told me that he has seen candelabras stuffed with paper bills. Apparently, the owners of these items, had the candelabras passed on to them, or they purchased them used, and never had any idea that money was hidden inside the item.
Those candelabras you see at the flea markets, auctions, estate and home sales may bring you some extra cash.
There's Cash in Those Store Parking Lots.
All of those people every day getting in and out of their vehicles at large retail parking lots and Malls?
How many of those individuals have reached into their purses and pockets for their keys, and while they are fumbling for their keys, they have lost cash and jewelry.
These items are often found lying on the ground between parking spaces. I know a retired individual who is now a security guard at a local Mall. He told me that people are always coming to him saying they have lost their money, and rings in the parking lot. He also has found loose change and dollars, in between those parking spaces.
The same man told me that he knows of people who walk through the parking lot looking for dropped cash or jewelry, and it's perfectly legal if they find some. You must report the item, and if no one has reported that they have lost the item, it becomes yours.
Not long ago I received an email from a person who told me that he knew an older, homeless man, who has found three diamond rings, and hundreds of dollars in two large Mall parking lots in six months.
Of course, the honorable thing to do if you locate cash and treasures in a parking lot is to report it, if no one claims the find, then it becomes legally yours to keep.
Fence Lines and Shrub Areas That Border a Parking Lot
While I was researching for this article, an old treasure hunter told me about this area.
He told me that if you see a fence line, or a border of shrubs that surround a parking lot, there's a good chance you may find some money, especially dollar bills. Here is why.
When the wind blows, some of those bills lost in the parking lot will be blown away, and end up stuck up against the fence or shrubs. The fence line and the plants act as a kind of catch basin for those bills. Makes cents to me.
Cash and treasures can be your reward. All you need to do is learn where to look.
